Big Idea: What does it mean to be human?
After today I should be able to: break down a topic and read the sources to find important information.
Reading: You should have two books read by October 1st.
Agenda:
- Read the prompt carefully. Identify the ideas from the prompt and the two sides.
- Skim the sources by reading the first and last paragraphs. Write down the main ideas and what side the article is arguing for.
- Identify three factors that cities need to consider when deciding how to regulate food trucks.
- Create a thesis statement that is worded like this
- When deciding how to regulate food trucks, it is important for cities to consider...
- Write a four sentence introduction to your essay.
- The first sentence should be about the importance of regulations.
- (ex.) Cities are living, breathing organisms, and in order to thrive, they need a framework of rules that ensures order and harmony.
- Then write two sentences about the new trend of food trucks in cities.
- The fourth sentence should be your thesis statement.
- Write a body paragraph that quotes from at least two of the sources.
- Start the paragraph with the phrase, "The first factor that cities should consider when regulating food trucks is...
- Then add a sentence that tells how food trucks relate to that factor.
- (ex.) The first factor that cities should consider when regulating food trucks is...The growth in food trucks can contribute to...
- Now add your quotes from the sources and give some real world examples.
- Finally end with your commentary.
- This evidence suggests...Consequently if...Therefore,...
- Make sure you highlight the parts of your paragraph.
Homework:
- SAT A 1-25 list. It is due by Sunday at 9PM.
- Read your independent reading book.
