Nuance Academy: Infinitive clause
After today I should be able to: write a sentence with an infinitive clause and generate open ended questions.
Reading: The Odyssey, pages 1-10
Agenda:
- Write 10 infinitive clauses.
- Start with an infinitive clause. An infinitive clause tells why the action of the verb occurs. Start with the infinitive clause and follow it with an independent clause.
- Loose sentence:
- Mr. White carefully planned the stages of his essay, and then he wrote it.
- Infinitive clause
- To write a good essay, Mr. White needed to plan carefully.
- Think about a goal that the subject has and then write what they need to do to achieve that goal.
- Goal: to write a good essay
- Action: Mr. White needed to plan carefully
- Notice and Note group work
- With your group, find examples of the sign post you were assigned. Include the book and line number and sentence about what you noticed.
- Add your signposts to this Padlet wall.
- Generating good questions
- Ask as many questions as you can
- Do not stop to judge, discuss, or answer any questions
- Write down every question exactly as it was stated
- Change any statements into questions
- Close ended or open ended (C or O)
- Identify whether the open ended questions could be answered easily or would take a while to discuss? Would the answer require explanation, but the explanation would be short or not take much time.
