  1. CMC chapter 64 audio
  2. Make a timeline for Eugenie Danglars character using the following chapters: 32, 55, 56, 57, 58, 61
  3. The "We Know a Secret" Essay (Focus on Dramatic Irony)
    1. The Concept: Dramatic irony happens when the reader knows a huge secret that the characters in the story do not. In this case, we know Eugenie and Benedetto are half-siblings, but they are about to sign a marriage contract!
    2. The Prompt: Write an essay explaining how Dumas uses dramatic irony to make the arranged marriage between Eugenie and Benedetto both suspenseful and satisfying for the reader.
      1. Explain the secret: What do we know about Eugenie, Benedetto, and Madame Danglars that the rest of Paris society doesn't?
      2. How does knowing this secret make reading about the wedding preparations more suspenseful or cringeworthy?
      3. Why is this specific, embarrassing situation the perfect punishment for Baron Danglars and his obsession with money?
